May 6 2008 - Comic Reviews for the week Arpil 30 2008

Sorry I did not post my reviews before but I have been feeling a bit under the weather. I had a hard time to pick a pick of the week. It was also an excellent week for art in comics. I am sure you know that these reviews they have SPOILERS.Ok back to bed for me since I am sleepy and my everything is hurting.

Dc Universe 0

Ok so if you have been reading my reviews you know I am more of a Marvel Guy. I am not big in the DC Universe just the Batman family and some Green Lantern because of Geoff Johns's great work on that book. I stop reading Countdown around issue 5. Because the story was not going anywhere. I was hoping that this book was going to help me with DC Big summer story line Final Crisis. I was hoping this was going to be some of the High lights of what I need it to know about the DC U since. I don't have the background in the universe that I've got with Marvel.

The one flaw with this book is that it was all hype, and very little actual story. I think it was intended to be this way though, and accomplished the goal of introducing the readers to DC's upcoming plans. All I want to know why is the FUCK is King Leonidas and his other 299 men doing in the wonder woman story line I am sorry but the art work makes me thing that she is going to take the Spartan army on. The art was all over the place in this book the same can be said about the story line. It did help me to set up some of the stuff I am hoping that I need to know for Final Crisis.

At the end of this book we found out that Barry Allen is back as the flash. I don't know why but I have never been a fan of Barry. I think that the third Flash Wally West is a better Flash then Barry Allen but like I told you guys and girls before I don't have the background in the universe that I've got with Marvel. So over all it was not that great but fuck is only $0.50 so why not get it right You can read it when you going to the bathroom

Green Lantern # 30

Funny how I was saying that I don't read a lot of DC books but as I am posting this review of Green Lantern it looks like I have four DC comics that I need to review .Now on with my review of Green Lantern part 2 of The " Secret Origin " story line. Let me start off by saying the art on this book was some of the best art I have seeing in a comic in a long time I hope that Ivan Reis will work on this book for a long time. The pages where just awesome. I hope I will see him at Comic con this year because I would love a sketch done by him.

Now on with the story. I am not going to bull shit you guys. I stop reading Green Lantern back in the 1990's. I just been reading it one more time because of Geoff Johns's work and also The New Frontier stuff by Darwyn Cooke. In new New Frontier we do get some of Hal's back-story had he got the ring by Abin Sur. What John's is doing so great is fuelling the entire bit parts that we where missing. I went out a few months back got my self a copy of Green Lantern Showcase Presents but if you ever want to read this book now is the time.

Because what Johns's is doing right now is telling us all the little parts that we never got before about Hal's story and how he is the greatest Green Lantern of all times. This is a great way to re tell the story of the Green Lantern for new fans out there. Go out look for this issue and number 29. You will thank me when you’re done reading them.

New Avengers #40

Fuck yeah it is Skrull time and I am talking on every page of this book till the great end. Not a single Avenger makes an actual appearance in the entire comic.  Did you ever want to know how the Skrull managed to remain hidden for so long this is the book that will tell you how they did it. The revelation at the end was shocking and it going to play a big part in this story line. Now that we know that Spider-Woman is a Skrull and she is also the Queen of all Skrulls. I can't wait for this Wednesday to get number 2 of 8 in the Secret Invasion books.

I'm anxious to see more of this great story by Brian Michael Bendis.  I can't wait to see how this is going to fit in the Marvel Universe. So watch out for those little green dudes. Because this story line is going to be on hell of a great time.

Let me take a minute to talk about the great artwork by Jim Cheung. There is a splash page in this book where you see over 100 Skrulls and is one of the best splash page in an Marvel book of all time and it also my desktop image on my Mac right now. This issue has got me waiting for more of this Secret Invasion story line and I am like a kid on Christmas waiting for Santa Claus.

Teen Titans #58

You know what I was not impressed with this issue. While I enjoyed the insight into Megan's character, it didn't really have a hook that made me sympathize with her. I didn't think Robin handled the situation truthfully .I like Ms. Martian although some of the scenes in this book I felt were just a bit much. I liked how the good current Ms. Martian and the future evil Ms. Martian are joined as one whole person and they are fighting for control the book, as a whole is really uneven to me.

I also did not like this artwork one bit. This maybe one the worst Teen Titans in this run. I have been reading the Teen Titans since the days of George Perez. I just don't care for where this book is going right now.

Teen Titans Year One #4 (OF 6)- PICK OF THE WEEK !!!!

If is funny that this miniseries is more fun then the main book. I have a hard time thinking what I don't love about this book. Maybe the only thing is when you are done reading it you want more of it. The sad part is that there is only two more issue in this run.

I love Kid Flash's attitude and how love struck Wonder Girl is with just about everything and how nervous Aqualad is with just about everything. The art is great this week was a great week for art in books. I wish the creative team were on a regular Titans book cause I think they would do a fucking great job with it.

I have to pick this book as my pick of the week. It was the most fun I had the most fun reading this book more then any other books. I was reading this past week. Yeah Green Lantern # 30 and New Avengers #40. Where great books this is just a fun book to read. I don't do this a lot but when the trade paperback comes out I will be more then happy to buy it. Because I am loving this book. This book has been excellent since issue #1.

Story: 5 - Excellent Art: 5 - Excellent

X-Men Legacy #210

This issues was not as great as the set up that was done in the past issue was hoping for a long more fighting I am not talking about PSI fight. Because will all know that Charles Xavier would win any fight he has to use his telepath power because Xavier can read, control and influence any minds.

I wish Magneto and Professor X didn't part ways. I want to see them team up and maybe even reform the X-Men together. Oh wait here is a great idea how about we do this for issue 500 merged the X-Men books into a weekly, or thrice monthly, series under the Uncanny banner.

Because that would make a lot of X-Men fans like my self happy. We don't need Young X-Men, X-Men Legacy, Uncanny X-Men, X-Force, X-Factor and Astonishing X-Men what about we put all this in one book and call it Uncanny X-Men. They’re great idea for you Marvel team up Magneto and Professor X reform the X-Men or just make a new team

Oh well in the next issue we get the Hellfire club and how cool has the past 3 covers been by David Finch  I love how they are linking them together. I can't wait for Marvel to make a poster of that so I can put it right on top of my desk. To bad the rest of the issue does not have David Finch on it.

Story: 3 - Good Art: 3 - Good

YoungBlood # 3

Ok I am the only one reading this book because feels like it I love this relaunch if this book. I have been enjoying it a lot. But I was also a fan of the old book by Rob Liefeld.

Is funny every time I read this book I feel like Stan " the man" Lee is going to be somewhere in this book because feels like episode of that TV show Who Wants to Be a Superhero?  .  I love that this book makes fun of how people in the world love reality TV. Sure Badrock is a wanted be Thing from the Fantastic Four. Yet the FF are reality TV show stars in there own way I enjoy this book a lot.

I am just not a fan of Derec Donovan's art work.  I think this book would be one hell of a trade paperback. I think that issues is hurting this book it would read a lot better as trade.

So guess what I saw Iron Man last night and my review is now available as a Podcast and on YouTube. If you saw it let me know what you think of it.

April 30 2008 -Interview with Jason Craig

On April 26 2008 I went down to Golden Apple Comics in Hollywood. I got to talk to Jason Craig the artist who just got done his run on Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash for Dynamite and Wildstorm comics.

We talk about how to make it in the comic business as an artist. How this book was going to be a movie and how issue six almost kill him and few more fun stuff.

You can watch the video podcast if you have subscribe to it or you can watch it via YouTube.

April 28 2008 -She will tear your soul apart

As some of you know one my other love in my life is Horror movies. This past Saturday I got to meet Jason Craig who is working on the Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash comic book. And we did a video podcast that I am going to edit this week. But also who was there was the one and only Ashley Lawrence (Kristy Cotton) from the Hellraiser films. My favorite horror films of all time.

Me and Ashley Lawrence

I got chance to talk to her for about 20 minutes so I as you can see in this photo. I was super dorky fan boy .She was of the coolest people I have meet in my life. We talk about her artwork and she is going to have an art show in the future.

I hope that get to go and maybe do a video podcast with her. But look for the interview with Jason Craig in the next few days also thanks to Ryan Liebowitz over at Golden Apple Comics for letting me film in the store.

April 28 2008 - Comic Reviews for the week Arpil 23 2008

Yeah more comic reviews also I got my copy of Amazing Spider-Man it was a week late thanks Marvel. Just know before you read this reviews they have SPOILERS.

Amazing Spider-Man #557

So a week after that it came out in the rest of the world. The west coast got their copy of Amazing Spider-Man number 557. The last part of this story arc.I know it would have been my pick of the week last week but Marvel did not send it out to people in the west coast on time.

I have been enjoying the revamp a lot and this last story arc was great. I would love for people to give this book a try one more time. It is not a bad as a lot of people on line are talking about. If you a fan of the old school Stan Lee Spider-Man then give this book a try. Like I had posted on my review of the last issue. I was sure that the homeless man was going to help spider-Man at the end of this arc and I was right. The end of the book is so key of what a hero is and does for the people in the world.

The artwork by Chris Bachalo in this book is great I love every page of it. There is one panel where Spider-Man is kicking the shit out of someone and your are just in ah because of the great work that Chris is doing on this book.

I also love the stuff with Harry I can't wait to see what there are going to do with this story line. Maybe he is a skrull who knows? He does look like one in a way also the other thing I have to ask about this book is where the fuck did Wolverine run off to? We saw him in the first part of this story where did he go at the end of this arc.

Story: 4 - Very Good Art: 5 - Excellent

Batman #675

Oh ok I am getting very sick of every woman that pimp daddy Bruce Wayne is fucking. Saying he is such a dark man and that they don't know anything about his life. That he runs off sometime in the middle of the night. Can we stop that for a bit with some of these Batman story lines?

This is issue was a set up for the up coming story line that the great Grant Morrison is going to be working on call Batman R.I.P they are not going to kill him off Morrison talk about it last week at New York Comic Con. So don’t jump off a bridge all you die hard Batman fans like my self.

But this story line in the book was not that fun and was kind of blah. To tell you the true I was not a big fan of that one bit. I did like the we got to see a bit more Talia and Damian if I have kids one day. I am going to name my son Damian I love that name.
What are very weird in this book are the last few pages where you see Bruce Wayne going after the Ninja with the eyes on his hands. The art start looking more like Frank Miller’s Dark Knight when Bruce and the Bat-Signal in the background The issue of Batman was done only by Ryan Benjamin.

There was a side story with Nightwing and Robin that was not need it. I was kind of mad that this issue it was not want I was anticipating. I know that I may end up looking stupid six months from now. Because that has is how Morrison writes his books or maybe I just want the R.I.P. Batman story line to get here.

Story: 3 - Good Art: 3 - Good

Mighty Avengers 12

This issue was a fun Secret Invasion tie in. Where we got to see what Nick Fury has been up to since Secret War. We also got to see him kill a Skrull. What got to see him be this great chess master that he is. We found out that Fury now wants Spider-Woman to work for 3 (S.H.I.E.L.D, Hydra and Fury's team) teams.

In This issue we got Bendis at his best when Fury and Maria Hill who now has Fury’s old job over at S.H.I.E.L.D are talking and where can I get one of those Cloaking device. Why does it look so much like an iPhone?

I just want more of the Secret Invasion story line. I can't wait for Secret Invasion to have a tie in every week for the next eight months. I don't know why but I have a feeling that Fury is going to be back in a big way when Secret Invasion will be over.

The only thing I did not like about this book was the color by Matt Hollingsworth. I just think the green he uses for his Skrull is to dark maybe that just me being the fan boy that I am. But how fucking cool was the last splash page when you see Fury looking at photos of these heroes is he telling us that all those people are Skrulls?

Story: 3 - Good Art: 3 - Good

Ms. Marvel #26 - PICK OF THE WEEK !!!!

I don't do this a lot but I went back and read this book two times in the same week. This by far was my pick of the week. Let me just tell you that the Secret Invasion is on like Donkey Kong in this book. I was not let down at all after the last issue of Ms. Marvel.

This book is full of action when Ms. Marvel is trying running away from Agent Sum (Who I think is a Skrull) to talking some mad shit to the Skrull who is try to take her place in the Marvel Universe and also a fight with a super skrull.

Brian Reed who is showing us what a good writer that he can be. With all this Secret Invasion story line. All I am going to tell you is go out GET THIS BOOK NOW !!!!! or you will be missing one of the best Secret Invasion tie in of this year.

Story: 5 - Excellent Art: 4 - Very Good

Uncanny X-Men # 497

So you think with a cover that has Angel, Cyclops and Emma Frost dress up like hippies that are what the story was going to be right ???

We guess one more time. The issue does have some pages with their LSD trip back to San Francisco back in the 1960's. We do get that part of the story line but it was more about Colossus, Nightcrawler and Wolverine on the way back for Russia after they where done visiting Colossus's hometown.

They get attack by something call " Red Room " that I don't re call in any X-Men books. Then get taking to a Russian government executive. Obviously he has something to do with mutants we will found more about that in the next book.

But you know how I was talking about Angel, Cyclops and Emma Frost dress up like hippies. Emma and Scott were cool together and I loved the funny little moments between the two. There was a great joke about how Emma is more naked in her X-Men outfit then her hippies outfit. For only about 6 pages.

Still don't know much about the "Goddess", but obviously something is not right with her. Wonder what she planned for them. This is part three of five I am not sure how this is going to end. Since there is only two more issue in this storyline. Oh yeah about Angel well. He was not in the book at all.

Story: 4 - Very Good Art: 3 - Good

X-Force 3 of 6

First off this book I don't like the art. It's to fucking dark and hard to understand It is hurting my eyes blah.

I have not been enjoyed this book at all we are now on book three of six. I only like issue two so far. If this book was not 50 % down with I would quit reading it.

The X-Force scenes were boring nothing important happened with them. I don't care about any of the people on the team.Bastion is really up to something terrible was frightening. Gathering all those dead people yet .I don't see this council as truly bringing the characters back... they're like... android zombies or something... which is about as creepy as creepy gets. I just don't care about this book anymore.
